The truck used by the crew is known in the broadcast business as an ENG truck to transmit from Punxatawny to Pittsburgh, would require the crew to raise a 30 foot solid metal mast, which are infamous for freezing in freezing rain and subzero temperatures meaning the truck would not be able to be driven if the mast was was up most ENG trucks have safety features to keep the truck from moving unless the mast and microwave transmitter are stowed in the home position.
