The vertical speed indicator shows Cougar's F-14 descending at 6,000 feet per minute, which would be an aggressive dive. Yet, Merlin fails to warn him. At the same time the altimeter, which shows he's at 31, 500 feet, is set to standby with the barometric pressure dialed to 28.32 when it should be at 29.92. This happens at 10:12.
