When Ed Creighton walks into the bar to pay for the horses, the pianist is playing the song "Little Brown Jug," which was not written until 1869. It was originally a drinking song, and it remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era.
