Lighting struck the clock tower at 10:04pm, however, knowing that time still would not have helped. 10:04 pm would obviously be 60 seconds, and lightning would stick in a fraction of a second. So there still would have been no way for them to time when it so the Deloran hit 88 mph right at the strike.
