When Ellie first hears the radio signal, she jumps into her car and starts frantically yelling into the walkie talkie. The car moves straight when it should move in a zigzag pattern.The car is a mid-1960s full-size Chevrolet. American cars of that time had notoriously imprecise steering with a lot of free-play. A car like that typically wanders if the wheel is held steady, and constantly needs correction, especially on a rough road as depicted.
