In subzero temperatures, the conduction from skin to metal is rapid and serious. Bare skin should never touch metal in these conditions as it would instantly freeze and bond. Gloves or mittens should always be worn, yet the men in the arctic scenes are frequently gloveless and touching metal without adverse effects.
