Upon returning to the ship (escaping the reavers at the robbery) Mal seeks solitude and watches a capture of Inara when a person who appears to be River bends over as if to inspect or smell the bed. (note the bare feet and odd behavior, typical of River) This happened in the past and she shouldn't be there.
