In the opening segment, when Sinbad's ship drops anchor, the anchor is a metal fluted anchor attached to a metal chain. Fluted metal anchors and metal anchor chains did not appear until the early 19th century. Until then anchors tended to be stones and were attached to heavy ropes.Sinbad legends date from the 17th century.
