Near the beginning after they raid the apartment, Shaft chases a guy with a red jacket into an apartment across the street. The guy turns, points his gun at Shaft and you can hear a click, click, click as he pulls the trigger but the gun is empty. The gun he drops is a 1911 Government Model with the slide locked back. It is therefore impossible to pull the trigger and drop the hammer on an empty chamber.
