During the early days of the Battle of Britain, the British attempted to use flamethrowers as a weapon against enemy aircraft. It was found to be totally ineffective. Planes flew at a high enough speed that they flew through the flames without suffering any damage whatsoever.Therefore, the dragons in the film should not have been able to destroy any of the P-51 aircraft.
