The SBD Dauntless used a Wright R1280 radial engine as its power plant, a 4 stroke reciprocating engine that had a compression ratio of 6 to 1. In multiple scenes the engine is shown to be slowly winding down after shut down and "windmilling" afterwords which would not have happened on a flight deck with a max speed of 32 knots. Only a turboprop or jet engine would be able to do this in such a light wind.
