Right before Jack gives chase to the bus with the bomb on it, Howard Payne gives the bus's location as being Ocean Park and Main. Later, the bus drives down the 105 freeway and ends up at Los Angeles International Airport. Ocean Park and Main Street is northwest of the airport, and in fact only a couple blocks from the beach and approximately one mile from the Santa Monica Pier. Interstate 105 is an east-west highway that starts just south of LAX at it's west end and goes east to Interstate 605 and passing roughly 7 miles or so south of downtown Los Angeles. Being already northwest of LAX, the bus would have had to go far east first and then south to get on Interstate 105 to take it to the airport. Interstate 405 would have been the nearest and easiest highway to take to LAX from Downtown Santa Monica.
