During the car chase scene, Matrix is driving a Sunbeam Alpine, a 1960s British sports car with what is most likely powered by a Hillman Minx engine, there's no way it could keep up with let alone catch a Porsche 911 unless it was a V8 powered Sunbeam Tiger.
