It's clearly stated more than once that the look in the victim's eyes is vital: the torturers know when a victim has reached martyrdom by the look in their eyes. However, the victim that Anna saves from the dungeon has a metal contraption nailed to her head that covers her eyes. So it would be impossible for her captors to know if she did indeed reach a state of martyrdom.
