At the beginning of the movie when Matai Shang and his two buddies are descending from the sky to greet Sab Than, you see the sun behind them as being fairly large, even larger than the sun looks from Earth and very bright. But from Mars, which is further from the sun than Earth, the sun would appear 5/8 the size as seen from Earth and sends 40% of the light.
