Through the course of the movie it is established that the door to the immediate left of the bathroom is Marcy and Jeff's bedroom. During the sex scene between Marcy and Paul this bedroom is well lit, but in a wide shot of Paul entering the bathroom immediately afterwards, we see that the room is in darkness.
