One cannot stay alive for this long with an open gunshot wound to the neck with active arterial bleeding (it was squirting out the blood vessel) especially if they are not able to put pressure on the wound, which is the father's case. Moreover, the wound is seen not bleeding after a few minutes, which means that there is no more blood to be ejected or that the heart has stopped beating (or both, as a matter of fact).
