Garrett repeatedly refers to the father of Gertrude Aldridge as "Sir Aldridge." Assuming that this character was a British national with a title of knighthood, he would properly be referred to as "Sir" followed by his first name, not his surname. For example, Sir Isaac Newton was "Sir Isaac" not "Sir Newton."
