Admiral King reports to Halsey that they possess only three aircraft carriers and no functioning battleships. This is inaccurate. By January-February 1942, the Pacific Fleet had; four fleet carriers available in the Pacific; Lexington, Saratoga, Yorktown, and Enterprise. In addition; the Fleet possessed ten battleships. Even if those laid up for repairs after Pearl Harbor are being are discounted, there were at least four battleships still available; Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, and New York.
