When Harry is attempting to take off with the Harrier, you can hear the sound of the engine changing, sounding as if the RPM's were going up and down multiple times. The aircraft would be literally bouncing if that were to happen. When the nozzles are pointing down in the vertical takeoff position, those extreme types of changes in power is not done nor necessary.
