Laws banning interracial marriage were not repealed in Louisiana until 12 June 1967 by Loving v. Virginia so Naveen's plan to marry a rich white heiress could not have come to fruition as he legally could not wed a white woman. This film is set in the aftermath of WWI during the Roarin' Twenties.
