When Wendolene wants her windows cleaned, Gromit uses a grate to execute a pole-vaulting maneuver with the ladder in order to get to work quickly. The fact that the feet of the ladder fit inside the slots of the grate in the first place would indicate that the ladder should at least slip down into the grate to the first rung before being stable, but Gromit arrives at the window without a hitch.
