The film is publicized as a biopic of "Gopinath Iyengar" (founder of Indian airlines 'Air Deccan'). In the film, Maaran (portrayed as G.R. Gopinath) resists to sell his airline to a business tycoon Vijay Mallya. In reality, after various talks and negotiations, Vijay Mallya managed to buy the airline company and re-branded "Air Deccan" as "Simplifly Deccan" with kingfisher logo.
