Detective Spooner draws a backup pistol from an ankle holster, but when he recovers his main weapon, he holsters the backup pistol in his main holster. He might do this to keep his spare pistol handy since his first one is now evidence of several crimes (theft, resisting arrest, attempted murder of a P.O., flight to evade...) committed by a robot, which Spooner is obviously eager to prosecute properly. So the original pistol would have to be secured for forensic examination.
