"Hurting" an AI by erasing data makes no sense technologically. From a completely pragmatic sense, erasing data from an AI's memory would make them less skilled and more likely to make mistakes, and therefore would be a counterproductive "punishment" for correcting the AI's mistakes. No programmer would handicap an AI's learning with less information; it simply makes no sense.
