Indy boards a Pan Am liveried flying boat in 1936. That plane is a Short Solent which first flew in 1946 - ten years after the action. In 1936 Pan Am had been using Martin M-130s since 1935 for mail service and in late 1936 started using them for Trans-Pac passenger flights. It wouldn't be until early 1939 that the "really famous" Boeing 314 joined the Pan Am Clipper ships in providing passenger service.
