When Tom is lugging the "drunk" Freddie Miles to his car after the bludgeoning, he imitates Freddie's sarcastic comment from their first meeting in Rome, to make it seem like Freddie is alive to passing Italians. However, if Freddie were alive and as drunk as Tom wanted him to appear, his words would have been slurred. Tom's imitation voice was perfectly clear.
