A major international incident ensues after the American team kills a group of corrupt Mexican police officers in the desert, resulting in suspension of the operation and a cover-up effort to conceal any American ties to the operation.
However, in the prequel to this film, Sicario (2015), another Mexican police officer is killed by the American team on the border bridge under similar circumstances in front of hundreds of witnesses, yet it is never mentioned again.
