Early on in the film it is mentioned by one of the characters that during the time periods when the house was unoccupied, vandals or squatters had previously broken into and messed it up, yet despite the existence of several padlocked doors and boarded-up windows, there still exist a couple of escape doors fitted with those archaic, easy-to-pick ward locks which the female victim opens and closes with her ward key of the type which can easily be found at flea markets and antique shops. Otherwise these simple door locks can be picked and jimmied open with a minimum of effort.
