Johnny tells Baby that the Schumachers were involved in the thefts and that by "fingerprinting their water glasses" it was discovered that they were wanted in Arizona. In 1963, there was no automated interstate fingerprint database, and any fingerprint searches at that time had be done manually, and would have taken weeks, not just a day as depicted in the film. The FBI's NCIC (National Crime Information Center) was not created until 1967 and AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) was not created until after 1980.
