When Packard challenges the Wraith to a race, he gets in his car while the Wraith pulls up parallel with him, both angled to the right hand side of the road, effectively cutting Packard off from a straight-ahead start. In the next shot the vehicles are aligned side by side facing forward on the street, ready to race.
