Very early in the movie when Harry and Quaid are using jackhammers on the work site, neither one of them are wearing safety glasses or a hard hat. The work that they were doing required safety gear. Irregardless of what type of work you are doing, not wearing safety gear (safety glasses and a hard hat) while just being on site would get you fired or yelled at.
