After their breakfast the Earl and Ceddie are on their way to the cottage so he can visit his mother. During the short carriage ride to her house the skies above are completely overcast. When they get to his mothers house the skies are almost completely clear. The same thing occurs at the stable and on his ride when Ceddie is riding his new pony. The sky is overcast but is then clear a short time later when they come upon Georgie Harker walking to the village.
