At the beginning when the Germans are discussing the submarine fleet, a name plate shows the U.S. sub as SSBN 56. At the time there were no nuclear ballistic submarines.It is clear that this movie its a spoof of East Germany, not WWII Germany. No time setting is established other than sometime after East Germany was established in 1949.
