During Red's and Sailor's break from the road gang, they first beat a train at a crossing with engine number 5024. Next they are shown driving beside presumably the same train, but it has a different engine number ending in "712". When they try to beat the train again at another crossing, it is engine #5024 again. However, in the shot from behind them, just before the crash, they are obviously facing a rear-screen projection which has been reversed, showing engine number 5012.
