If there was indeed no food at all, and all plants had already died together with no animals, humans wouldn't be able to survive either. Modern humans rely totally on civilization to provide all basic needs. Even cannibalism wouldn't be sufficient for around 10 years after the disaster, as most people that didn't rely on it would have died of starvation. Also, there are dead trees, but no sign of dead animals on the country and almost no humans on cities.
