The film begins with the birth of Lee Danfield. The bulk of the story occurs in 1940, after Lee returns from college, presumably around 21 years of age. This would place his birth in 1919. Both the doctor's and the veterinarian's cars that arrived simultaneously at the Danfield home at Lee's birth are models from the late 1920s, ten years in the future.
