Though it was clear by when this film came out that the filmmakers wanted to destroy the Enterprise D so we'd get the new Enterprise E in the forthcoming movies, there are some plot holes which they didn't explain. First off when Lursa and B'Etor remotely used Geordi's VISOR to determine the Enterprise's shield modulation, why didn't the Enterprise simply rotate the shield frequency? They rotated shield frequencies several times during the TNG series. Secondly when Geordi determines that there is going to be a core-breach, why didn't he try to eject the warp core or at the very least vent the drive plasma? Both of those suggestions should have been explored.
