The movie implies Sophie's family are the only direct decedents of Jesus. Family trees can branch extensively after only a handful of generations. Given that there has been almost two thousands years it's highly likely that Jesus would have many living decedents, possibly even thousands. Genetically speaking any one of them would serve the purpose of proving a link.
