The machines can hear rock music from miles away, but are incapable of hearing two low-flying jet fighters. However, the statement that the robots heard the rock music was simply a guess as to how the robots located them. We know that Skynet is actively looking for Kyle Reese and later we see that everything Marcus observes is being monitored, so Skynet already knew exactly where to go.
