(at around 56 mins) Light successfully uses the Death Note on Watari despite not knowing his real name; only his alias. And that's working for the Rules of the Death Note. Rule 2 (for this adaptation) says clearly, the Face of the Person has to be in the writers mind, when the Name of the Person is written in. In Wataris case, this fulfills the rule given, as Watari is this persons used name, even if it is an Alias. It would also work, if the writer would insert Cher or Madonna, because these names are used in real life instead of their birth given names. On the other side, it wouldn't work with L, even when Light knows his face, because L is only one letter and therefore not a complete usable name and won't pass Rule No. 2.
