It has been assumed that because John Wick's Mustang has New Jersey plates, the gas station where he encounters Iosef Tarasov must be in New Jersey where self-service pumping is illegal. However, Upper Nyack is just outside of New Jersey in Rockland County, NY where self-service is legal. It's not unlikely that Wick could have been passing through that area. Also, Iosef's car has New York plates, which makes this even more plausible.
