In the beginning, sheriff's rifle is frozen and doesn't work. But somehow, Tigrero's rifle works when he shoots the sheriff even though it had been buried in the snow for some time. Snow does work as insulator, but items left into snow will reach eventually reach ambient temperature and freeze.
