John and Tom accompany the sheriff with two of the King's men to the gate of Doone Castle. Once through the gate the sheriff shouts a warning to the guards who are killed along with the sheriff but at one point in the background is a man in a plumed hat who seems to have appeared out of nowhere. The shot at the gate only shows John, Tom and the sheriff and not the other two men. The fight with the guards includes the two King's men who rode to the castle with the other three.
