Just before the aliens and police shoot at each other near the supermarket gas pumps, a cop tries to grab Eric's wheelchair and trips over a car hood. This is part of the plot, because when he trips, his gun goes off, accidentally shooting Eric. In the final U.S. version of the movie, the shot where Eric gets shot was removed, thus making it look like Eric got injured in the explosion.
