Near the beginning of the movie, when Danny and Sedgwick are attempting to escape by mingling with the Russian prisoners, the line of prisoners is walking out the front gate. A long shot shows that Sedgwick, identifiable by his height and the hat he is wearing, has walked just outside the gate. However, when the camera switches to a closeup shot of the German officer who calls halt and walks over to Sedgwick, the latter is still inside well the gate.
