The Flag Patch on the Battle Dress Utility (BDU) uniform is oriented correctly, facing to the rear when worn on the right shoulder, but it is a full color patch. The flag is worn on the right shoulder when American forces are engaged in coalition operations and on the left shoulder when American forces are operating alone. The flag on a BDU uniform is the usually the monochromatic (camouflage) patch. A color patch could allow enemy soldiers to target a soldier in battle.
