When Ethan is describing the theft of the NOC list to Krieger and Luther on the train, the visual of the description shows the lasers in the duct-work to be layered all the way up the duct. During the actual job the lasers are on the same plane allowing the device to redirect the lasers, and are also on a flat plane when the agent looks up to see where the knife came from.
