Throughout the film, the insignia on the German planes showed a strange mixture of Maltese Crosses (with curved edges) and Balkan Crosses (with straight edges) at the same time. In fact, the Germans changed to the Balkan Cross for their planes in 1918 - just a few days before Richthofen's death.
