During the shootout on the plane Kruger throws 1 parachute out the door, which he puts on after his free fall to catch it. After the plane comes back to 'run him down' he gets all tangled up in the chute and the ropes. He frees himself of his tangled chute, and he suddenly has a second parachute that he opens in time before hitting the ground.All parachutes have two chutes. The primary chute and backup chute. He was tangled in his primary chute and then he deployed his backup chute.
